The new edition of Ahead On The Flat produced it's first winner of 2020 when Simeen (6/5) maintained her unbeaten record at Chantilly on Wednesday. Owned by the Aga Khan and trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, the daughter of Lope De Vega had won both her starts as a juvenile and looked a smart prospect in the process. Reappearing in a conditions event over a mile, she was given a confident ride by Christophe Soumillon and, while the winning margin was only a short neck, Simeen scored with something in hand. Her trainer was impressed and her next target is expected to be the French 1000 Guineas at Longchamp (1st June). Rouget has won the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches on four occasions (Elusive Wave (2009), Avenir Certain (2014), Ervedya (2015) & La Cressonniere (2016)) and she has been installed as second favourite behind Andre Fabre's Tropbeau, who won the Group 3 Prix de La Grotte at Longchamp on Monday. Related to the high-class filly Sarafina, Simeen is also entered in the Prix Saint-Alary and Prix de Diane, both over ten furlongs, and is bred to appreciate further.
