Tim Easterby highlighted one juvenile, namely Winter Power, to look out when I spoke to him in the spring for Ahead On The Flat. It was therefore disappointing when the well bred daughter of Bungle Inthejungle failed to win either of her first two starts at Newcastle and Wolverhampton in June. All the rage on her debut at Gosforth Park, she finished third and was then found to have a dirty throat after filling the same position at the Midlands venue ten days later. Viewed as a Royal Ascot two year old, she was given a break and returned at Redcar on Monday. Contesting a five furlongs nursery off a rating of 76, she made light of her opening mark to beat eight opponents by upwards of five lengths. David Allan's mount was prominent throughout and barely came off the bridle before stretching clear. She looked every inch a Pattern filly at the Teesside track and it would be no surprise to see her given entries in races such as the Group 2 Lowther Stakes and Listed Roses Stakes at York's Ebor fixture next month.
The Great Habton based handler went to sent out a treble at Redcar, including Bollin Margaret (22/1), who is also included in his interview in AOTF.
Switching codes, I interviewed David Pipe on Monday afternoon for One Jump Ahead. The head of Pond House Stables has recruited heavily from Ireland and has some fine prospects for the winter ahead. A number of the yard's horses have undergone wind operations during the summer, which will hopefully bring about plenty of improvement.
