Shang Tang, featured in the Handicap Snips section of One Jump Ahead, made a winning start to his chasing career at Newton Abbot on Monday. Rated 134 over hurdles, the Shantou gelding has always looked the sort to make an even chaser and Emma Lavelle's gelding produced a polished display at the West Country track. Jumping well throughout, he travelled powerfully before taking over with a bold leap at the third last. Tom Bellamy's mount arguably hit the front soon enough but he was kept up to his work after the last to win comfortably by a couple of lengths the race fit market leader Hooper. Suited by flat tracks and trips around two and a half miles, he didn't appear to stay three miles in the Grade 2 River Don Novices' Hurdle at Doncaster last winter. The seven year old handles slower ground, too, which gives his connections plenty of options this Autumn and beyond.
Sales for One Jump Ahead continue to flourish - so much so, that we only have around 300 copies remaining. Please head to the Publications section of the site to order a copy, plus the Updates.
Red Vineyard (9/2) was highlighted as an unraced two year old to follow in the York Ebor Update and Willie Muir's well bred son of Slade Power won on his debut in a seven and a half furlongs maiden at Ffos Las on Sunday. A half-brother to the high-class Grade 1 winner Red Cadeaux, he wasn't unfancied beforehand and showed a willing attitude to prevail by three parts of a length. On this evidence, he will stay at least ten furlongs next year and is a nice prospect.
