Happy New Year to all subscribers. The Top 40 Prospects in One Jump Ahead start 2018 in good style with Dortmund Park improving markedly on his Irish debut at Fairyhouse this afternoon. The ex-French gelding was only sixth at Navan last month but clearly appreciated the step up to two and a half miles here. Ridden by Davy Russell, he had to be driven out to register a three parts of a length win. Gordon Elliott said afterwards that the Great Pretender gelding will improve again for the run and will come into his own over three miles. He needs to progress rapidly in a short space of time but the way his trainer was speaking suggested the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival is no forlorn hope.
