There was an interesting maiden over a mile at Chelmsford this evening. The race was won by the strongly fancied Alfarris under Jim Crowley. William Haggas gave the gelded son of Shamardal a favourable report on page 78 and he looks as though he will be even better over another couple of furlongs. However, I suggest readers keep a close on the Sir Michael Stoute trained pair, Paradise Lake and Abjar. The former is now qualified for handicaps and will be a very interesting proposition over ten furlongs or more, while the latter did his best work late on and is another who will come into his own over longer trips. Frankie Dettori's mount was having his first run and his lack of experience was evident during the early stages. With this run under his belt, the expensive son of Nathaniel will be hard to beat next time. If anyone hasn't seen the race, I recommend they do so on ATR's racing replay tomorrow morning. The winner looks useful and I will be amazed if Paradise Lake and Abjar don't win races. I actually believe Abjar will turn out to be the best horse in the race even though he only finished sixth.
