Sir Michael Stoute seemingly has his horses well forward with his six runners during the last two days finishing 122311. The head of Freemason Lodge sent out an across the card double on Tuesday, which included First Receiver's impressive victory at Kempton. Featured in the Maidens In Waiting section of Ahead On The Flat, the son of New Approach had run well in both starts as a juvenile and had reportedly worked very well at the start of last month. The subject of strong support beforehand, Ryan Moore's mount quickly overcame a wide draw and virtually made all. In control throughout, he showed a good turn of foot to pull seven lengths clear. Rated 88, it will be interesting to see if he contests either the St James's Palace Stakes or Britannina Handicap at Royal Ascot later this month. Alternatively, he could step up in trip and take his chance in the Hampton Court Stakes, although he didn't look slow. He looks a smart prospect and most definitely one to follow.
There were four juvenile events at Newcastle with the second division of fillies' maiden stakes the one of main interest. Tim Easterby has hidden his regard for the King Power Racing owned Winter Power and she was backed accordingly. Unfortunately, the daughter of Bungleinthejungle could only finish third but it is too early to be writing her off. Silvestre De Sousa's mount travelled well but was forced to challenge wide and was unable to get to grips with the Mark Johnston trained Pelekai. With hindsight, the draw (stall 3) didn't do her any favours. With luck, her supporters will recoup losses next time.
