Classical Song was highlighted as a juvenile to follow in the York Ebor Update and the daughter of Lope De Vega confirmed the promise of her debut run at Goodwood by winning at the second time of asking at Sandown on Saturday. Ralph Beckett's filly was much more streetwise breaking well and getting a good position early on in the seven furlongs fillies' maiden. Pushed along to hit the front with a couple of furlongs to run, she stretched away inside the final 200 yards to win readily by three lengths. Quoted at 33/1 for the Oaks afterwards, she will be even better when stepping up to a mile plus and it wouldn't be a surprise to see her tackle a black type race next. The Listed Silver Tankard Stakes at Pontefract (23rd October) over a mile would make sense and the Hampshire trainer has a particularly good record in the race - he won it in 2015 and 2018 and both Westover (2021) and Luckin Brew (2022) finished second.
