Sumkindofking, featured in the Top 40 Prospects of One Jump Ahead, looked a star in the making when winning the concluding bumper at Chepstow. The five year old was bought for £70,000 during the spring having won the second of his two Irish Points and expert Declan Phelan pointed us in the right direction with his write up on page 40. A twelve lengths winner, he barely came off the bridle under Adrian Heskin and looks a horse with a big future. The full brother to Paddy Power Chase winner Minella Foru will presumably go novice hurdling now. Admittedly, due to the vast number of non runners, he wasn't a great price but OJA has made its name by unearthing such horses and it was a very satisfying result.
On a card which was depleted due to the prevailing fast ground, the meeting kicked off with an interesting two mile maiden hurdle. Harry Whittington nominated Charlemar (7/2) as his horse to follow in OJA and the ex-French trained gelding made a winning start to his British career. Despite still being novicey, he stayed on strongly to beat Orchard Park by three parts of a length and left the impression he can only improve. His stable are being to engage top gear following a few quiet weeks and they run an interesting horse in the bumper at Newbury tomorrow. Unfortunately, are there are at least two others in the field who carry plenty of stable confidence so it is a race to keep an eye on.
There are still a few copies of One Jump Ahead remaining and don't forget the first Update will be emailed to clients a week tomorrow in time for Cheltenham's three day Open meeting. Full details via the Publications section of the site.
