Adrimel made it two out of two over hurdles with a workmanlike victory at Haydock on Wednesday. Tom Lacey's gelding, who had scored on his jumping bow at Sandown last month, didn't jump particularly well and came off the bridle some way from home. However, he dug deep in the latter stages before staying on to beat outsider Grumpy Charley by four and three quarters of a length. With market rivals Qualismart and Ranch Hand (far too keen) disappointing, the form is questionable but I think Adrimel won despite hating the sharp track. A winning pointer, he is crying out for a step up in trip, too. With that in mind, I contacted Tom Lacey afterwards and suggested the Grade 2 Leamington Novices' Hurdle at Warwick (16th January) as a possible target early next year. Long-term, the five year old's future lies over fences.
