William Haggas' interview in Ahead On The Flat produced a couple of winners on Thursday, including Pretty Baby's facile win in the six furlongs novice event at Redcar. The daughter of Orpen won as a juvenile last year but she stepped up on that performance with an impressive five lengths victory at the Cleveland track. She showed a lot of speed from the outset and gives the impression she would be quick enough to drop back to the minimum trip, if required. Otherwise, she could be the sort to develop into a leading contender for the six furlongs charity sprint handicap for three year olds at York in mid June. She looks a smart filly in the making.
The Newmarket trainer certainly pointed readers in the right direction on page 71 of AOTF regarding the lightly raced Hakeem (7/2). The gelded son of Exceed And Excel conceded eight pounds to the Godolphin owned Victory Wave in the one mile novice stakes at Southwell. Jim Crowley's mount stayed on strongly to prevail by a length and a quarter and looks capable of winning a decent handicap this summer.
