While all eyes were on the final day of Glorious Goodwood, Ahead On The Flat had a productive day at Doncaster. John Gosden's First In Line, who is featured in the Unraced Three Year Olds section of AOTF, made it two wins from three starts in the ten furlongs novice stakes. A winner at Lingfield last time, he made all the running under his penalty winning by six lengths. He is a progressive type and an interesting prospect.
Thirty five minutes later on Town Moor, Top 40 entry Spanish Archer returned to form with a last gasp victory in the ten furlongs handicap. Disappointing on his reappearance at Chelmsford last time, James Fanshawe's four year old was back to form staying on strongly late on under Daniel Muscutt to prevail by a head from Everything From You off a mark of 94. Refitted with a hood, he looks well worth a try over twelve furlongs and the son of Lope De Vega will hopefully enjoy a productive Autumn.
I have spent the majority of Saturday typing up my interview with champion trainer Paul Nicholls. There are 101 horses featured in his interview and they range from established Grade 1 winners to new recruits from Ireland and France, plus some ex-Flat racers and a number of potentially exciting unraced bumper horses. Owner Andy Stewart has been associated with some top-class horses at Ditcheat over the years, including the likes of Big Buck's, Cenkos and Le Roi Miguel amongst others. Following a few lean years, Paul informed me on Friday that Andy has bought eight new horses, including an exciting recruit from France who has run well in two starts at Auteuil. It is a terrific interview which readers are sure to find informative and profitable.
