The William Haggas trained La Yakel was highlighted as a horse to follow in the York Update and the three year old duly won the twelve furlongs heritage handicap at Ascot on Saturday. An impressive winner at Southwell last time, he was making his handicap debut off a mark of 87. Given a beautifully patient ride by Adam Farragher, the Time Test gelding came with a well timed run to lead inside the final furlong. Suited by some ease underfoot, he is a progressive horse who looks tailormade for the Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket (7th October). Long-term, he will stay further and it would be no surprise to see him competing at Pattern level.
The Julie Camacho interview produced yet another winner with Look Out Louis (11/1) bolting up in the five furlongs handicap at Haydock Park. The interview has included Ballyconneely Bay (100/30), Look Out Louis (11/1), Oscar's Sister (8/1) and Riversway (15/2).
The Top 40 Prospects in AOTF were amongst the winners at Kempton with Mostahdaf (6/1) running away with the Group 3 September Stakes. Given a break since disappointing at Newmarket's July meeting, he returned to his best here with a clear cut success. A two and three quarter lengths winner, John and Thady Gosden's four year old enjoys a sound surface and is worth another try at Group level.
