Nazeef won her fourth race of the season and gained her second Group 1 victory in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. The four year old, who is featured in the Top 40 Prospects in Ahead On The Flat, won the Falmouth Stakes on the July course during the summer before finishing third in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood (track didn't suit her). She reportedly failed to handle the conditions at Deauville last time but John Gosden's filly was back to her best on the Rowley Mile. Given a patient ride by Jim Crowley, she crept into contention towards the stands side before quickening up well inside the final furlong to win by a length and a half. She has been a tremendous filly and the star of the Top 40. It remains to be seen whether she contests the QEII at Ascot in a fortnight or whether she stays in training as a five year old in 2021. Either way, the daughter of Invincible Spirits owes her connections nothing and has been brilliantly campaigned by the champion trainer.
The disappointment of the race was Peaceful who seemingly failed to handle the heavy ground. Aidan O'Brien's filly was original due to head to Longchamp for the Prix de L'Opera. Ironically, her connections changed their minds because they feared the ground would be too slow in France.
The Talking Trainers section in One Jump Ahead had another successful day at Fontwell with Top Man (15/8) providing Chris Gordon with his third winner in two days, while Collooney (9/2) made a winning seasonal reappearance in the two miles three handicap hurdle. Olly Murphy has his team in fine form and Gordon Elliott's former assistant sends some interesting runners to Kelso on Sunday. And then for good measure, Bumpy Johnson (7/2) was an impressive winner of the concluding bumper. A faller in his only Irish point, he travelled beautifully before being pushed clear for a ready win. David Pipe has another lovely prospect on his hands and it will be interesting to see if the four year old is kept to bumpers this season.
All orders for One Jump Ahead received by lunchtime on Saturday have been posted. Those received since will be sent out on Monday am.
