Talking Trainers - Part I

The Talking Trainers section in One Jump Ahead is one of the most popular features amongst clients. There are 13 stables covered in the 2023/2024 edition and over the coming days I will be going through each yard on here highlighting a few noteworthy statistics.

HARRY FRY - Higher Crockermoor, Corscombe, Dorchester, Dorset

Horses covered: 33

Paul Nicholls' former assistant was responsible for Listed and Graded success last winter courtesy of Boothill, Credrojava and Love Envoi. The stable did particularly well in bumpers sending out 7 winners from only 21 runners (33%) and expect Harry to have a strong team of novice hurdlers this winter.  In terms of tracks, Harry has a good record at Bangor-On-Dee with 11 winners from 39 runners (28%), Carlisle (2 from 3 - 67%), Doncaster (10 from 37 - 27%), Exeter (46 from 160 - 29%), Fontwell (22 from 85 - 26%), Leicester (4 from 12 - 33%), Lingfield (5 from 15 - 33%), Market Rasen (11 from 47 - 23%), Plumpton (17 from 42 - 40%), Sedgefield (2 from 3 - 67%), Southwell (10 from 38 - 26%), Taunton (37 from 166 - 22%) and Uttoxeter (29 from 120 - 24%).

Here is what Harry says on page 55 about a new recruit from Ireland: "She didn't run in a point-to-point but we gave her a canter around Wincanton in the spring and liked what we saw. She could start off in the mares' bumper at Aintree (29th October), which we won with White Hart Lady (2019) and Credrojava (2022)."

CHRIS GORDON - Morestead Farm Stables, Morestead, Winchester, Hampshire

Chris enjoyed a personal best 52 winners last season operating at an impressive strike-rate of 22%. Aucunrisque provided the highlight of the campaign when winning the valuable Betfair Hurdle at Newbury in February. The stable's chasers had a very productive season with 26 winners from only 83 runners (31%). Watch out for the Gordon trained runners at the following venues this winter: Carlisle 3 winners from 5 runners (60%), Fontwell (106 winners), Kempton (25 winners), Leicester (3 from 8 - 38%), Lingfield (21 winners) and Plumpton (90 winners). 

Chris says on page 61 re a potentially exciting youngster who has yet to race for the yard: "A very nice unraced four year old who remains a work in progress. We have given him plenty of time and he is a lovely horse who does everything easily at home."
