Colin Tizzard's barren run of 44 days finally came to an end at Wincanton on Thursday with Rose of Arcadia getting off the mark over hurdles at the third time of asking. The ex-Irish pointer has progressed with each run this season. Disappointing on her seasonal return at Ffos Las in the Autumn, she ran much better at Wincanton on Boxing Day finishing runner-up. Stepped up to two miles here, she over raced for much of the contest but Jonjo O'Neill jnr did a fine job not committing her too soon. All out to hold on a neck, it was a good performance given the fact she had been too keen in heavy ground. Provided she settles, she could be a big player in something like the mares' final at Newbury next month (27th March). The highlight of her win was her beautiful jumping throughout, which bodes well for her career over fences in due course.
I am heading to Catterick tomorrow for Racing TV and will therefore update the Diary over the weekend. Weather permitting, there should be some superb action at Leopardstown, Musselburgh and Sandown.
