With the National Hunt season officially ended prematurely due to the coronavirus, I have been adding up the final statistics for One Jump Ahead. For the third consecutive season, the Top 40 Prospects made a level stakes PROFIT of £113.50 (£10 stake) with 36 winners from 104 runners (35%). There were three Cheltenham Festival winners, namely ENVOI ALLEN, FERNY HOLLOW and SHISHKIN.
The other two sections which shone included the French Revolution article, which showed a PROFIT of £115.30 (£10 stake). It also included three Cheltenham Festival winners in ARAMAX (15/2), BURNING VICTORY (12/1) and SAINT ROI (11/2). Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers had a superb season with 37 winners from 136 runners (27%) and an overall PROFIT of £274.60 to a £10 stake. The most notable winners included CILL ANNA (3 wins), CLONDAW CAITLIN (12/1, 11/4, Evens, 9/4), FRENCH DYNAMITE (6/1 & 5/1), KEARNEY HILL (20/1, 2/1), MINELLA MELODY (3 wins), MOSSY FEN (3 wins) and SPRINGFIELD FOX (7/1 & 7/4).
The Updates also had a good season with the Cheltenham Festival preview producing 7 winners, including DAME DE COMPAGNIE (Advised @ 10/1), FERNY HOLLOW (Advised @ 12/1) and SAINT ROI (Advised @ 20/1). The Christmas Special selected EPATANTE (Advised @ 9/2) in the Christmas Hurdle and POTTERS CORNER (Advised @ 9/1) for the Welsh National. Declan Phelan's Irish Angle article over the Festive period was in lethal form with a handful of winners, including COBBLER'S WAY (9/2) at Leopardstown. The most frustrating result over the winter as far as the Updates were concerned was the narrow defeat of CIEL DE NEIGE in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury. Advised @ 16/1, Willie Mullins' five year old was denied by three parts of a length having been the subject of a sizeable gamble beforehand.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed, including Brian Ellison and Evan Williams, who featured in the Talking Trainers section of the November and Christmas Updates.
Thank you, too, to all subscribers who purchased my publications during the course of the jumps season, your support is greatly appreciated. Stay safe and try not to drink too much and I will be back to update the Diary shortly. I will keep readers informed re the likely publishing date of Ahead On The Flat. At this rate, I will be weighing in at around twenty stone next time I appear on Racing TV.
