Glittering Love (2/1) was nominated as a horse to follow in the November Update and Nicky Richards' gelding made it three wins from as many starts over fences at Ayr on Wednesday. The former pointer had previously scored at Hexham and Ayr off marks of 92 and 101 and he defied another five pounds rise. Contesting the three miles handicap chase, the Winged Love gelding was always to the fore and took charge leaving the back straight - Brian Hughes comprehensively outrode Harry Reed as he nipped up his inside halfway down the back. Staying on strongly, he produced a bold leap at the last before recording a two and a quarter lengths win in the 0-120 event. A stout stayer who relishes testing conditions, he could be contesting something like the Durham National next Autumn.
Three times Grand National winning owner Trevor Hemmings has some promising youngsters and they include the lightly raced Laxey who caught the eye on his hurdles debut in the opener at Ludlow on Wednesday. The Henry Daly trained gelding had run creditably in bumpers at Hereford and Haydock. From the family of Folsom Blue, he was always going to find two miles at the Shropshire track on the sharp side and so it proved. However, the five year old was spotted running on well at the finish to fill fifth position behind Smarty Wild. Beaten around twenty lengths, the son of Yeats will relish a step up to two and a half miles plus. He is one for the long-term.
