The 154 rated hurdler Sceau Royal made a good start to his chasing career with a convincing four and a half lengths victory at Warwick yesterday. The five year old, who won the Elite Hurdle at Wincanton and finished sixth in the Champion Hurdle last season, jumped quickly and accurately en route to a ready success under Daryl Jacob. A trip to Cheltenham could be next on his agenda and there is every reason to believe he will prove as good, if not better, over fences.
Adrien Du Pont was rated 143 over the smaller obstacles and he, too, hails from France. A Grade 1 winning juvenile hurdler a couple of seasons ago, Paul Nicholls' gelding wasn't the easiest to place last winter but he has always been viewed as a future chaser. Stepping up to two miles five for the first time at Fontwell this afternoon, he won the novices' chase by a hard held by a couple of lengths. Effective on good and heavy ground, he is a smart prospect for the former champion trainer.
I am working at Redcar tomorrow for Racing UK but there is a possibility I will send a message to Email Service clients on Saturday evening (after 7.00pm) or Sunday morning.
