It was another profitable day for One Jump Ahead with 3 winners at Chepstow, namely Silver Hallmark (7/2), Potters Venture (9/1) and Kepagge (5/1). The trio all began their careers in Irish points.
Indeed, Silver Hallmark is one of Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers in OJA and the five year old made a sparkling start to his hurdling career at the Welsh track. Third behind McFabulous on his Rules debut in a bumper at Newbury last March having been purchased for £115,000, he reversed the form with Paul Nicholls' charge in two miles maiden hurdle. Racing prominently, he led three out under Adam Wedge before staying on too strongly for his nearest pursuer to win by four lengths. He looks a smart prospect and promises to be even better over further. Fergal O'Brien mentioned the Challow Hurdle at Newbury (28th December) as a possible target with one run beforehand, in all likelihood.
McFabulous didn't jump well enough during the second half of the race - he appeared to get unnerved at the first hurdle down the backstraight. One of his rivals kicked the hurdle out of the ground in front of him and it seemed to unsettle him.
I am currently working on the November Update, which will be emailed to clients on Thursday 14th November. On Tuesday, I interviewed the in-form Brian Ellison for the Update. The Malton based handler has been in fantastic form with 10 winners from 19 runners during October. During the current jumps season, Brian has trained 20 winners from 51 runners at a tremendous strike-rate of 39% (the stable had 21 winners during the whole of last season).
