Not for the first time, Frankie Dettori was the headline act on Saturday with the Italian partnering Inspiral to an easy success in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. A three and three quarters of a length winner, the Frankel filly was gaining her fifth success at the highest level and proved a class above the opposition and, in doing so, provided her jockey with his 500th winner at his local track. The Cheveley Park Stud owned filly has won 8 of her 12 races, including the Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville on two occasions.
The entries for the first of the two day meeting at Chepstow next week were published on Saturday afternoon. The highlight of the opening day's action is the Grade 2 Persian War Novices' Hurdle with Paul Nicholls being responsible for two of the 16 entries. The ground at the Welsh track is currently described as good and with temperatures set to rise over the next couple of days, the track could do with some rain later in the week - there is some forecast on Wednesday and Friday.
The Talking Trainers section in One Jump Ahead were amongst the winners at Fontwell once again on Saturday with Le Patron (2/1) making a mockery of his mark of 113 on his fencing bow in the two miles novices' handicap chase. The ex-French gelding received a favourable mention from Gary Moore and he outpointed his three opponents with a bold display of jumping before sauntering clear to cross the line 20 lengths in front. There should be plenty more to come from the son of Balko.
Please head to the Publications section of the site to order your copy of One Jump Ahead and the Updates before the season clicks into gear at Chepstow next weekend, weather permitting.
