"He remains the clear leader in a crowded field"

"You and I have been buying One Jump Ahead since we were at school and need little convincing. As we reach another Mark Howard Equinox, however, do tell your friends, because he remains the clear leader in a crowded field." Those are the final couple of sentences of Nick Luck's Foreword in the forthcoming edition of One Jump Ahead. The eight times Broadcaster of the Year has been a great supporter of my publications over the years - he actually bought them before I ever met him at Racing UK over fifteen years ago.

Having completed the Index on Wednesday, there are over 680 horses covered in OJA with the Top 40 Prospects, Bromley's Best Buys (Anthony Bromley's 36 new purchases from the UK, France and Ireland - these include a handful of horses owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede for whom Anthony is racing manager), Changing Codes, French Revolution (42 new arrivals from across the English Channel spread across Britain and Ireland), Handicap Snips (14 horses who I feel are ahead of the assessor), Irish Pointers (expert Declan Phelan selects over 40 horses who caught his eye 'between the flags' in Ireland last winter/spring) and Appendix (a comprehensive analysis of the leading players in the various divisions ie. two mile chasers, staying chasers, two mile hurdles, staying hurdlers). The last named section has pinpoint half a dozen horses with chosen targets - they include a couple of ante-post selections for the Grand National, plus one for the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. 

The French Revolution section has proved hugely popular in recent years unearthing Cheltenham Festival winners A Plus Tard, Aramax, Burning Victory, Defi Du Seuil, Espoir D'Allen, Klassical Dream and Quilixios. The likes of Blue Lord, Capodanno, Gauloise, Monmiral and Nassalam also featured in the 2020/2021 edition. As stated, there are 42 new recruits covered this time around and are trained by the following Willie Mullins (16), Jonjo O'Neill (5), Paul Nicholls (4), Gordon Elliott (3), Dan Skelton (3), Venetia Williams (3), plus Nicky Henderson, Gary Moore, Henry De Bromhead, Ian Williams amongst others. In addition, there are some French horses contained within the Top 40 Prospects. I have watched videos of all the horses covered, plus spoken to James Reveley who has either ridden or rode against a lot of those included. It will be a surprise if there aren't a few budding stars amongst them - that is what One Jump Ahead is all about.
