I have sent a message to Email Service clients this morning (10.25am). Please let me know if you haven't received it.
Bromley's Best Buys in One Jump Ahead got off to a flying start at Fontwell yesterday with Chosen Path (7/1) gaining a nine lengths victory in the two miles three novices' hurdle at the Sussex venue. Third in his only Irish point last spring, the Well Chosen gelding was bought by Anthony soon afterwards and, despite showing signs of greenness yesterday, he ran out an impressive nine lengths winner. Alan King has his string in fine fettle and the four year old looks a decent prospect.
Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers also got in on the act at Uttoxeter on Sunday with Palmers Hill (11/4) making an equally taking Rules debut. Jonjo O'Neill's gelding travelled strongly before running on well after the last. His victory was gained over two miles and the four year old promises to be even better over further, according to Declan. He, too, looks a smashing sort for the future.
Switching codes, I must confess to being a bit disappointed with Persuasive's run in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. There were no excuses as John Gosden's filly was well positioned and held every chance in the closing stages. Beaten a length and a quarter by old rival Roly Poly, I thought it was a golden opportunity to win a first Group 1. If kept in training as a five year old, perhaps she will gain compensation in something like the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot next summer. Cheveley Park Stud fillies tend to improve with age.
Whilst working at Redcar yesterday, I spoke to Tim Easterby and he passed on news of his star juvenile Wells Farhh Go. Unbeaten in both starts, including the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York - form received a boost when runner-up James Garfield won the Mill Reef Stakes last month - he could be seen in action next weekend. Tim is toying with the idea of running him under a penalty in the Zetland Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, although he isn't convinced the track will suit him. The other two races he is considering are the Racing Post Trophy or the Criterium de Saint-Cloud over ten furlongs.
Finally, congratulations to David O'Meara after Suedois gained a much deserved Grade 1 success in the United States. The six year old was racing at the highest level for the tenth time at Keeneland last night and he prevailed by half a length under Danny Tudhope. Bought for €165,000 a couple of years ago, the first prize in the Shadwell Turf Mile was £487,804. His win follows his Group 2 success in the Boomerang Stakes at Leopardstown last month. Subscribers will recall I tipped Suedois in the City of York Stakes in the York Update and he finished a gallant third from a wide draw. Since then he has won a Grade 1 and Group 2. Typical.
