While the Email Service can't do much right at present, One Jump Ahead can't do much wrong. Top 40 entry Steely Addition (4/1) made it two wins from three starts since joining Philip Hobbs during the summer. Despite carrying a penalty for his recent win at Wincanton, the former English winning pointer was two pounds 'well in' for the two miles seven handicap hurdle at Chepstow. The five year old relished the step up in distance and coped with the easier conditions with aplomb as he hacked up under Micheal Nolan. Always travelling smoothly, he made a minor mistake at the second last but it didn't halt his progress as he handed out a ten lengths beating to Waterloo Warrior. While the handicapper will undoubtedly have his say, the lightly raced son of Craigsteel is the sort to stay ahead of the assessor for some time to come. The hold up tactics adopted on his latest two outings clearly suit him and I think he is a horse who doesn't want to hit the front too soon.
Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers continue to shine with Chooseyourweapon (9/1) leading close home in the two miles three maiden hurdle at the Welsh venue. An expensive purchase, he stayed on strongly to collar Bromley's Best Buys entry Gowiththeflow in the shadows of the post. He looks a nice long-term prospect for the Ruckers and Evan Williams and it won't be long before the runner-up goes one better.
Stable Gossip (pages 126 - 128) has been in good form, too, with Kalashnikov (4/1) winning impressively at Wetherby on Saturday. Good Boy Bobby was highlighted as an unraced bumper horse to watch out for and Nigel Twiston-Davies' gelding made a winning start (6/1) in a strongly contested bumper at Chepstow this afternoon.
For those readers who have purchased One Jump Ahead, you will be aware that one of the Talking Trainer's horses to follow is listed as unnamed (page 73). The horse in question runs in the last race at Newbury tomorrow (3.55).
Anthony Bromley emailed me an article this afternoon for the first OJA Update - Bromley's Best Buys Part II. His piece includes new recruits from the Newmarket Horses In Training Sale plus a selection of private sales which feature new names who have joined Nicky Henderson, Alan King and Willie Mullins. There certainly appear to be some exciting horses involved.
