Classic winning trainer George Boughey described Pastiche (9/4) as a 'rocket' when I interviewed the Newmarket based handler in February for Ahead On The Flat. The daughter of Zoustar was held up during the spring / early summer and therefore didn't make her racecourse debut until late last month. Highlighted in the Diary following her eyecatching run when finishing seventh, she would have been much closer had the Jason Hart ridden filly enjoyed a clearer passage. Beaten around three lengths, she confirmed that promise when scoring at the second time of asking at Southwell on Sunday. Kevin Stott took over in the saddle and the Boughey runner was always moving strongly before being pushed out to register a length and a half win. The step up to seven furlongs appeared to suit and, while she holds another entry at Haydock on Friday, it is hoped Pastiche is put away for next season. She ought to develop into a nice three year old.
Tim Easterby's interview in AOTF included Revoquable (40/1) and the Pastoral Pursuits gelding benefited from a break before returning in the one mile handicap which opened the card at the Nottinghamshire track.
Rock On Harry gave Value Racing Club another winner when taking the concluding bumper at Ffos Las. Bought privately after winning an Irish point in January, the Yeats gelding was fitted with a hood on his first run for Tom Lacey and justified strong market support by registering a head win. Stan Sheppard's mount travelled powerfully and arguably hit the front soon enough but the six year old knuckled down when it mattered. Likely to go hurdling, his yard are in fine form.
All orders received for One Jump Ahead over the weekend will be posted out on Monday morning. If you haven't ordered a copy or the Updates, please head to the Publications section of the site while stocks last.
