The One Jump Ahead Cheltenham Festival Update has been emailed to clients this afternoon (2.29pm). If anyone hasn't received it, please let me know as soon as possible. The Update is 43 pages and copies can still be ordered via the Publications section of the site. In addition to the four days at the Festival, I have also highlighted a few horses for races such as the Midlands National and even the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster - last year's edition nominated the first and second in the first big race of the Flat season.
The February Update has had an excellent weekend. Hot on the heels of Misty Whisky's (5/1) victory at Sandown on Saturday, Minella Melody (9/10) and Chantry House (8/13) won on their Rules debut in bumpers at Gowran and Warwick respectively. The pair look set for bright futures and very much horses to follow over hurdles next season.
Chacun Pour Soi was Rich Ricci's horse to follow in One Jump Ahead a couple of seasons ago but the ex-French gelding didn't make it to the track. However, the seven year old showed what he is capable of with a bloodless win on his chasing debut at Naas. Defying an absence of 1089 days, the Policy Maker gelding jumped brilliantly and made all to win hard held by 31 lengths. It will be interesting to see where he heads next. Funnily enough, Rich sent me a text about a minute after CPS had crossed the line saying: "Was it worth the wait?"
Kaiser Black was nominated as a prospective Grand National contender in OJA and, while Aintree's isn't on his agenda this spring, it is hoped it will be in the future. Pat Doyle's gelding had run a cracker at Leopardstown last month when chasing home La Bague Au Roi in Grade 1 company and confirmed the promise with a comfortable success in a Grade 3 at Naas. Jumping soundly, he took charge on the run to the final fence before powering away to win by eleven lengths. A big tall gelding by Germany, there is a major prize to be won with him.
