During the last 24 hours I have interviewed Paul Nicholls and Fergal O'Brien for One Jump Ahead. Predictably, the former champion trainer has recruited heavily during the summer with any number of potentially exciting young prospects from France and Ireland. Fergal is a new addition to the Talking Trainer roster and is very much a handler on the up. Nigel Twiston-Davies' former assistant has sent out 60 winners for the past couple of seasons and, with the talent at his disposal, he must be hoping for a personal best campaign this winter with 11 winners already on the board. I have now completed 10 stable interviews with four 'new' names this time around.
Anthony Bromley has sent me his article, namely Bromley's Best Buys, which includes some very interesting horses which have arrived from France and Ireland. I also contacted Graham Wylie earlier today regarding his high profile horses and their respective plans. I am also planning to speak to two more of Willie Mullins' owners, namely Rich Ricci and Jared Sullivan, shortly regarding their formidable squads for the winter ahead.
More immediately, I am heading to Haydock Park tomorrow for a cracking card which features the Group 3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes. Paul Nicholls passed on a positive word for Birds of Prey in the twelve furlongs handicap at 1.55. Formerly trained by John Oxx, the four year old chased home subsequent Epsom Derby winner Wings of Eagles in a mile maiden at Killarney as a juvenile.
