Thyme Hill provided Philip Hobbs with his fourth win in the Grade 2 Persian War Novices' Hurdle at Chepstow. The Kayf Tara gelding had shown high-class form in bumpers last season winning on his debut at Worcester twelve months ago before finishing third in the Grade 1 Festival bumper at Cheltenham in March. The five year old jumped well and stayed on strongly after the last to win by two lengths from Irish import Fiddlerontheroof. A winner on good and slow ground, he looks a versatile type and is one to look forward to.
One Jump Ahead had an excellent day overall at the Welsh track with Thyme Hill (9/4), Ardlethen (15/2), Vieux Lion Rouge (9/2) and Silver Forever (8/13) all winning. There are plenty of runners in OJA at Chepstow and Hexham on Saturday. The National Hunt season is well and truly underway.
Trueshan is featured in OJA but it remains to be seen whether the three year old goes hurdling this winter having won the valuable Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket on Friday. Rated 93, the Planteur gelding had won twice earlier in the year before finishing second at Haydock last time. Alan King's charge went one better under William Buick on the Rowley Mile with a three and three quarters of a length victory. He looks very well bought at 31,000gns.
Hamish is another progressive staying three year old. The son of Motivator appreciated the step up to a mile and six in the Melrose Stakes at York in August when winning off a mark of 92. Raised six pounds, William Haggas' gelding produced an even better performance to win another big prize over the same C&D by nearly three lengths. Danny Tudhope's mount cruised into contention and was value for much more than the winning margin. Already qualified for next year's Skybet Ebor, Hamish looks a Pattern horse in the making and is an exciting prospect for 2020.
