LUCINDA RUSSELL - Arlary House Stables, Milnathort, Kinross. Tayside
Horses covered: 58
A personal best campaign with 71 winners and record prize-money of £1,528,225 which included the yard's second win in the Grand National via Corach Rambler and Apple Away was a Grade 1 winner at the same meeting. Growing all the time, Lucinda Russell and partner/assistant Peter Scudamore have joined forces with the latter's sons Michael and Tom who are now involved in the operation with a satellite yard in Herefordshire. With a string of approximately 150 horses, they are rapidly developing into one of the most powerful stables in the country finishing sixth in last season's championship. Expect the stable to be represented nationwide this winter, especially with the satellite yard in the south coming to the fore. Lucinda and Scu have done particularly well at the following tracks over the years: Ayr (135 winners), Carlisle (60), Hexham (126), Kelso (124), Musselburgh (86), Newcastle (60) and Perth (133). Further south, the stable have a good strike-rate at Ascot (2 from 11) and Sandown (4 from 20).
Stable stars past and present Ahoy Senor, Apple Away, the ill-fated Brindisi Breeze, Corach Rambler and One For Arthur all began their careers in Irish points and Lucinda has been very active once again in the same market during the last twelve months. She comments on page 126 regarding another potential superstar from the same source saying: "I loved him at the sales. We aren't going to rush him and give him plenty of time. We will start him off in a bumper."
