It wasn't a vintage card at Cheltenham on Friday by their own usual high standards but Happygolucky made it two out of three over fences. Kim Bailey's gelding, who narrowly missed out at Fakenham behind Getaway Trump last time, was stepping up to three miles plus for the first time in the staying novices' chase. The Jeremy gelding put in a solid round of jumping and appeared to be in control some way from home. Leading approaching the second last, the six year old idled on the run-in before being driven out for a three and three quarters of a length win. His trainer indicated afterwards that he is keen for Happygolucky to return to the track in March but wouldn't commit regarding his ultimate target. Although he is likely to be entered in the RSA Chase, it wouldn't be a surprise if he contested the National Hunt Chase or something like the Ultima Handicap Chase instead. In the meantime, a race such as the Grade 2 Towton Novices' Chase at Wetherby (6th February) could be an option. Bailey won the three miles event last season with Newtide.
I am currently working on the Christmas Special, which will be emailed to clients on or around Monday 21st December. There will be a comprehensive analysis of races such as the King George, Welsh National and some of the other major events over the Festive period. I am hoping to sort out a stable interview next week, details of which will be announced in my Diary shortly. If you haven't already ordered a copy, please head to the Publications section of the site. The Christmas Special is £6.00. Last year's edition highlighted Epatante (Advised @ 9/2) in the Christmas Hurdle and Potters Corner (Advised @ 9/1) in the Welsh National.
