Roger Varian has never hidden his regard for Teona with the daughter of Sea The Stars widely touted as a Classic contender at the start of the season. Things didn't go to plan during the first half of her three year old campaign with her pulling away her chance in the Musidora Stakes at York before being beaten nearly thirty lengths in the Epsom Oaks. Given a break, she produced a smart performance to win a Listed contest at Windsor last month which booked her place in the Group 1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp on Sunday. Ridden by Olivier Peslier, she got the better of her old rival Snowfall running out a comfortable length and a half victor. Her rider had to wait for a gap to develop in the home straight but, once in the clear, she stayed on strongly to beat Aidan O'Brien's dual Classic winner. She is learning to relax now and is an exciting prospect for next season because she has a lot of physical scope and ought to make an even better four year old. Teona (179/10) is featured in the Top 40 Prospects of Ahead On The Flat.
Subscribers to the York Ebor Update will be aware that Romantic Proposal (16/1) featured amongst the interview with Joe Foley of Clipper Logistics. The five year old skipped the Nunthorpe Stakes due to the prevailing fast ground and was saved for the Group 1 Flying Five at the Curragh instead. It proved the right decision with Eddie Lynam's charge producing a career best as she travelled powerfully before running on well to beat a host of high quality sprinters, including Glass Slippers and Winter Power. The daughter of Raven's Pass handled the quick surface and is developing into a high quality sprinter. The Prix de L'Abbaye at Longchamp (3rd October) is expected to be her next target and she will remain in training as a six year old in 2022.
It was a good weekend for ValueRacingClub.co.uk with Boundless Power running a cracker in the Portland Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday and Tinsmith providing Jamie Snowden with his first ever winner on the Flat at Chelmsford on Sunday twenty four hours later. Boundless Power has been another terrific buy for the syndicate having been acquired privately for £25,000. The four year old has won twice this year at Nottingham and seen his official rating climbing from 75 to 88 and that mark will increase again following his performance on Town Moor. The Slade Power gelding travelled powerfully and looked set to win until getting outstayed late on by Hurricane Ivor. Beaten half a length, it wouldn't be a surprise if he made his presence felt in Pattern company before the end of the year, especially when encountering his favoured easy ground. The winner carried plenty of stable confidence - William Haggas sent me a video via Whatsapp of Hurricane Ivor earlier in the week and said the ex-French horse had never looked better all year. It was therefore a very good effort by Boundless Power.
Thank you to those clients who have bought One Jump Ahead over the weekend - it is greatly appreciated. The book is now at the printers and will be sent out as soon as possible. Please head to the Publications section of the site, if you haven't already purchased a copy, or the Updates.
