While it was disappointing to see Chantry House only finish third in the two and a half miles novice chase at Cheltenham on Saturday, it wasn't a bad day for followers of One Jump Ahead. The Talking Trainers section produced half a dozen winners, while Monmiral made it two out of two since joining Paul Nicholls. Featured in the French Revolution article, the Saint Des Saints gelding followed up his Exeter win with an eleven lengths victory in the Grade 2 Summit Juvenile Hurdle at Doncaster. Sean Bowen's mount jumped very well, bar the second last, before pulling clear in the manner of a high-class three year old. He doesn't look just a juvenile either appearing to have the size and scope to jump fences one day. He looks a smart prospect for the remainder of this campaign and beyond.
Arguably the most impressive performance of the day though came in the concluding four year old fillies bumper at Fairyhouse. Willie Mullins won the event with the useful Colreevy in 2017 and the Closutton handler was responsible for this year's winner, too, in the unbeaten Brandy Love. Purchased for £200,000 out of Colin Bowe's yard having won her sole Irish point-to-point, the daughter of Jet Away was sent off a short priced favourite and never gave her backers an anxious moment. Always to the fore, she was taken wide by Patrick Mullins and never came off the bridle sauntering clear by seven lengths. The Grade 2 mares' bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown (7th February) is expected to be her next target. It would be no surprise to see her line up in the Cheltenham Festival the following month either. Mullins won both events in 2018 with Relegate. She looks another top notcher for the Top 40 Prospects.
I am working for Racing TV at Carlisle on Sunday and will therefore update the Diary early next week.
