The Top 40 Prospects in Ahead On The Flat have endured a lean spell in recent weeks but Wiretap (8/1) provided the feature with a welcome winner at Yarmouth on Thursday. David Simcock's gelding, who was withdrawn from an engagement at Haydock twenty four hours earlier, had only finished eighth on his seasonal return at Lingfield. Dropped a couple of pounds and stepped up to a mile, the son of Charm Spirit was given a confident ride by Jamie Spencer sweeping past the whole field before being driven out to win by three parts of a length.
Antonia De Vega (4/1) was another winner for AOTF in the ten furlongs Listed contest at Newbury. Ralph Beckett's filly had been seen since finishing down the field in the Group 1 Fillies' Mile at Newmarket. Stepping up in trip, she stayed on strongly to win going away. The Irish Oaks may well be her next port of call, according to her trainer.
The Royal Ascot Update will be emailed to clients on Sunday evening (16th). If you haven't already ordered a copy, please head to the Publications section of the site. The Update is £10. I am heading to York tomorrow for Racing TV and will be back to update the Diary at some stage over the weekend. I am hoping to pick up a few final clues for the Royal meeting on the Knavesmire on Friday afternoon.
