Birchdale (9/4) looks a good prospect

Birchdale (9/4), featured on page 133 of One Jump Ahead and one of Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers, made an impressive start to his Rules career with a four lengths win in the two miles five maiden hurdle at Warwick. The gelded son of Jeremy won his only point in March for Colin McKeever and Wilson Dennison before being purchased by J.P.McManus. Strong in the market before the off, Nicky Henderson's charge quickened up well between the final couple of flights and soon put the race to bed. The four year old will come into his own over three miles in time but may be kept to shorter trips for the time being. It would be no surprise to see him develop into a Graded performer.
