The Top 40 Prospects have certainly got off to a flying start with two more winners on the final day of Newmarket's Craven meeting. Out From Under (8/11) is bred to come into his own over middle distances being a colt by Dubawi out of a Group 3 middle distance winner. However, Roger Charlton's charge, who shaped well as a juvenile, had sufficient speed to win the opeing seven furlongs Alex Scott Maiden Stakes by two and a half lengths. Richard Kingscote's mount travelled powerfully and always appeared to have his rivals covered before being pushed out for a ready success. Rated 81, he is likely to contest one of the decent three year old handicaps over a mile next time with the Silver Bowl at Haydock (21st May) mentioned afterwards. Later on, the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot looks an obvious target for this promising colt who is part owner and was bred by Luca Cumani.
Twilight Calls (6/5) supplied the Top 40 with his fourth winner (from only 6 runners) when coming from virtually last to first to win the concluding five furlongs handicap. I have been a big fan of Henry Candy's horse since his juvenile days and, having been slightly disappointing on his final two outings last term, the four year old was gelded during the winter. Once again, the son of Twilight Son travelled powerfully and quickened up like a horse ahead of the handicapper to edge out Look Out Louis by a length off a mark of 94. Capable of winning a decent handicap, it is hoped he will bridge the gap into Pattern races later in the season. Well done to those readers who took the 3/1 on offer when first priced up on Tuesday.
The Talking Trainers section also had a successful afternoon on Thursday with Eydon (22/1) defying his huge odds in the Listed Feilden Stakes at HQ, while Bay Breeze (7/2) made a mockery of his rating of 67 in the six furlongs handicap at Ripon supplying Tim Easterby with another winner.
