ValueRacingClub.co.uk enjoyed their first Flat winner last week at Leicester courtesy of Mountain Rescue. The same syndicate secured two new purchases at the recent Goffs DBS Doncaster Sales who will go into training with Grand National winning handler Dr Richard Newland.
The lightly raced Greyed A was acquired for only 11,000gns having been placed in an Irish point and over hurdles at Clonmel for Paul Power. A five year old by Daylami, he is a half-brother to four times winner Kilronan High and is a maiden over hurdles and fences, which is a bonus. Still considered weak last year, he has size and scope and, with respect to his previous trainer, he is open to plenty of improvement for his new yard.
West of The Edge has more miles on the clock having won five races (2 hurdles, 2 chases and a point-to-point). Previously trained by Dai Williams, the eight year old won the Lincolnshire National at Market Rasen on Boxing Day last year by six lengths before landing a staying handicap hurdle at Plumpton in early February. Ironically, his nearest pursuer that day was Dr Newland’s dual Durham National winner Royale Knight. Officially rated 104 and 101 over hurdles and fences respectively, he remains fairly treated and is the sort his new handler excels with. A proven mudlark, there could be plenty more to come from the gelded son of Westerner, who was originally trained in Ireland. Bought for 14,000gns, he looks tailormade for races such as the Durham and North Yorkshire Nationals next winter.
If anyone would like to get involved with either new purchases or any of the other ValueRacingClub.co.uk string, please contact manager James Couldwell at contact@valueRacingClub.co.uk. Don’t forget within the last two years, the club already has an Imperial Cup and Summer Hurdle on its burgeoning CV.
