There was an excellent card at Haydock yesterday and it was pleasing to see Out And About winning the concluding seven furlongs handicap. Despite the fact he looked in need of the run beforehand and drawn wide, the gelded son of Fastnet Rock showed a sharp turn of foot to win with something in hand. A step up to a mile will suit and he looks tailormade for the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot next month. William Haggas’ team are running much better now and he was chuffed with Out And About’s performance.
Keep an eye out for the Richard Hannon trained Nisser, who finished an unlucky third in the six furlongs handicap at the same track. Considered a Coventry Stakes horse at one stage last season, he met interference on a number of occasions yesterday and, granted a clear run, I think he would have won. He is well treated and can win a similar event shortly. I spoke to his trainer afterwards and he was gutted – he said he didn’t want to watch the replay.
I will update the Diary more thoroughly during the week because I am working at Cartmel, my local track, tomorrow and continuing to work on the forthcoming Royal Ascot Update. If you would like to order a copy of the Update, please head to the Publications section of the site. I received news yesterday of a highly promising juvenile who is due to make his racecourse bow shortly. I will pass on the information in due course.
