Point of View got off the mark at the third attempt in the second division of the twelve furlongs maiden at Kempton. Roger Varian’s charge had shaped with distinct promise on his debut at Newmarket’s Craven meeting but failed to confirm it next time at the same track. However, the yard are in better form now and the New Approach colt was kept up to his work to fend off the challenge of Mazaz. A neck separated the pair with seven lengths back to the third. It will be interesting to see what mark Point of View is allocated.
Muntahaa, who is featured in the Unraced Three Year Olds section of AOTF, won the first division of the same maiden and he, too, was getting off the mark at the third attempt. The Dansili colt relished the step up to twelve furlongs for the first time having been placed in the Wood Ditton at HQ over a mile and also at Nottingham over a mile and a quarter. Sent for home early by Paul Hanagan, the John Gosden trained colt bounded clear to win by six lengths. Like Point of View, he looks a stayer rather than a speed horse and ought to win more races. Of the two divisions, Muntahaa recorded the quicker time by around a second.
I will update the Diary on Sunday following all the action at Epsom. In the meantime, I am continuing to work on the Royal Ascot Update, which will be published on Sunday week. Please go to the Publications section to order a copy.
