James Fanshawe’s string are really hitting form and Lord George built on his seasonal pipeopener at Kempton in the spring by winning the extended eleven furlongs handicap at Yarmouth. While he only prevailed by a short head, I feel he was value for more than the winning margin suggests. Indeed, the grey got Tom Queally out of jail because he was travelling strongly with two furlongs to run but instead of committing him, the Irishman elected to sit still which gave an opportunity to Sbraase. Thankfully, the lightly raced three year old won and he is the sort to stay ahead of the handicapper. A stronger run twelve furlongs will suit and Lord George gives the impression he will stay even further, if necessary, in time. He gallops rather than quickens.
I am working at York tomorrow and will then finish off the Royal Ascot Update over the weekend. The Update will be emailed to clients on Sunday evening. I am hoping to speak to a few trainers at York tomorrow regarding running plans for next week. There is still time to order a copy – it is £8 and available via the Publications section of the site. Don’t forget last year’s Update produced 11 winners, including Amazing Maria (advised @ 33/1) and the first three home in the Royal Hunt Cup.
