Apologies for not updating the Diary for a few days. There is some excellent racing tomorrow with Haydock Park and Sandown taking centre stage. I am heading to the former for Racing UK. Unfortunately, the ground will be very testing with Friday evening’s card being run on heavy. However, it still promises to be a terrific day with the Lancashire Oaks and Old Newton Cup the feature events.
In terms of a bet tomorrow, the John Quinn trained Reputation may be worth backing each way at 5/1 (Bet365) in the seven furlongs handicap at Carlisle (8.35). The Royal Applause gelding won at York as a juvenile last year and has run two solid races this term. Eighth in a competitive three year old handicap at York’s Dante meeting behind the likes of Castle Harbour and Chief Whip, he then finished fourth at Epsom on Oaks day. He looks fairly treated off 82 and, while his only victory came on fast ground, I remember Phil Makin telling me afterwards that he would prefer easier conditions. The going is currently described as good but there is rain forecast tomorrow in the North West. The stable won the first two races at Beverley on Friday and I will be disappointed if Reputation doesn’t go close and reward each-way support at least.
