Top 40 entry Sea of Faith (3/1) may not have quite lived up to early season expectations but she has developed into a useful middle distance three year old filly nevertheless. The daughter of Sea The Stars caught the eye of virtually every racegoer who saw her debut run at Sandown in April but failed to build on it next time at Newbury in Listed company. An easy winner at Doncaster in June, she was narrowly beaten over a mile and five on her handicap debut at Newbury last month. Dropped back to a mile and a half in a fillies' handicap at Salisbury on Thursday, she was given a positive ride by James Doyle and William Haggas' charge stayed on strongly to win by three lengths off a mark of 95. A strong stayer, one would expect her to return to Pattern company next time and hopefully she will enjoy a fruitful Autumn.
On Thursday morning I interviewed Alan King regarding his hopes and aspirations for the new season for One Jump Ahead. The head of Barbury Castle has some established stars such as Sceau Royal and Bet365 Gold Cup winner Talkischeap but he is also blessed with some exciting youngsters. The stable unleashed a host of promising bumper horses last spring and he looks particularly strong in the novice hurdle division, plus an enviable team of juvenile hurdlers. Alan also passed on news of a potentially well handicapped three year old for the remaining weeks of the Flat season, which will be included in the York Ebor Update.
