Glory And Fortune (9/4) won a Listed four year old bumper at Cheltenham on New Year's day. The Fame And Glory gelding didn't run again last term but he made it two wins from two starts when scoring on his hurdles debut at Huntingdon on Tuesday. Fitted with a hood and racing keenly early on, he overcame a mistake at the third last before running on strongly to win by a length and three quarters. Still raw, Tom Lacey's gelding can only improve for the experience and he looks a horse with a bright future.
The other noteworthy performance on Tuesday was produced by Notebook on his chasing bow at Punchestown. The Samun gelding won a point-to-point (for John Nallen) earlier in his career and was rated 135 over hurdles despite only winning one of his six starts over timber. However, the Gigginstown House Stud owned gelding looks set to reach a more higher mark over fences, judged on his first attempt over the larger obstacles under Rules. Ridden by Rachel Blackmore, he produced a brilliant round of jumping before taking charge at the third last. It remains to be seen whether the six year old proves to be Arkle Chase class but it will be a surprise if he doesn't win at Graded level over fences this winter. Effective over two and two and a half miles, Henry De Bromhead has another cracking chasing prospect on his hands.
