Envoi Allen made it two out of two in bumpers when winning the Listed Future Champions Bumper at Navan by four and three quarters of a lengths. The Muhtathir gelding had made a good impression on his Rules debut at Fairyhouse a fortnight ago and Gordon Elliott's gelding looked even better on this occasion. Contesting a race which Elliott has won with Don Cossack, Death Duty and Samcro, he quickened up well to lead with two furlongs to run before pulling away late on to beat Galway winner Midnight Run. With stablemate Malone Road on the sidelines and unlikely to be ready for the Cheltenham Festival, it will be interesting to see if the four year old is steered towards the Festival bumper. Either way, he is a tremendous prospect for Cheveley Park Stud.
It was an excellent day all round for One Jump Ahead. Didero Vallis (12/1), who is featured in the Stable Gossip section on page 149, produced a gutsy display to win the two miles five novices' handicap chase at Carlisle. Bought out of Willie Mullins yard for £46,000 in May, the five year old had been well held on his first start for Venetia Williams at Newcastle earlier this month. However, he proved a different proposition at the Cumbrian track. Dropped in trip and ridden positively, he fended off a host of challengers before staying on well to repel Luckofthedraw by three parts of a length off a mark of 127.
There were also three winners at Southwell included in OJA, namely Umbrigado (Evens), Stoney Mountain (1/3) and Monbeg Zena (11/10). However, arguably the best result of the whole day was at Anfield.
