I have returned from a very enjoyable and productive few days in Newmarket. I was fortunate enough to interview Luca Cumani, James Fanshawe, William Haggas, David Simcock and Roger Varian for the forthcoming edition of Ahead On The Flat. David Simcock is a new addition this year and the head of Trillium Place has certainly assembled a strong team for 2017. Roger Varian only moved into Carlburg Stables a couple of weeks ago and, while there is plenty of building work going on, the change of address appears to have gone smoothly. The yard was previously occupied by the now retired Clive Brittain.
Another aspect of the trip which I thoroughly enjoyed was watching a vast number of horses working on Warren Hill gallops. Indeed, over the three days, it was like a Who's Who of Flat racing on the Newmarket gallops. I spotted Marco Botti, Luca Cumani, Ed Dunlop, Charlie Fellowes, John Gosden, William Haggas, William Jarvis, Jeremy Noseda, Sir Mark Prescott and Sir Michael Stoute.
I will carrying out more interviews for AOTF next week and there is a possibility I will be returning to HQ because Hugo Palmer, who has agreed to be interviewed, was in Dubai this week. Then, next Saturday, I am heading to Kempton for Racing UK.
