Gordon Elliott's fine run of form continued at Roscommon with the Grand National winning trainer sending out three more winners. Death Duty won a couple of bumpers last season and is viewed as a high-class novice hurdle prospect for this season. Partnered by Ruby Walsh, the Shantou gelding barely came out of second gear to win the two and a half mile maiden hurdle. Suited by testing ground, he ploughed through the conditions to win by a hard held eight lengths. He is very much a horse to keep on the right side of this winter.
Stablemate Monbeg Worldwide is featured in Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers section in OJA and he maintained his unbeaten record by winning the bumper on his Rules debut. A four lengths winner of his only point Donnchadh Doyle, he was subsequently bought by Gigginstown House Stud and joined Elliott during the summer. A strapping four year old by Lucarno, he looked a relentless galloper as he justified short odds in the two mile bumper this afternoon. A five and a half lengths winner, he is likely to be kept to bumpers this season before going hurdling this time next year. He looks a strong staying type who long-term future lies over fences.
