"What a tremendous start for AOTF with two winners for the Top 40 at Kempton this afternoon. As always, top quality information and much appreciated." W.S.

The Top 40 Prospects in Ahead On The Flat has made a blistering start to the season and there were two more winners at Kempton on Easter Monday. Al Husn (100/30) is bred to be a useful filly being out of Group 1 placed mare Hadaatha and therefore a half-sister to the Melrose Stakes runner-up Moshaawer. Rated 82, it looked significant that Roger Varian pitched the daughter of Dubawi into a conditions stakes at the Sunbury track and she didn't disappoint with a smart performance. Held up by Jim Crowley, she quickened up inside the final furlong to score readily by a length. Her connections are reportedly thinking in terms of the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot (17th June).

It wouldn't be a surprise if William Haggas elects to give the hugely promising Maljoom (3/1) an entry at the Royal meeting - entries for the Group 1 St James's Palace Stakes close on the 26th April. A colt by Caravaggio, he didn't make his debut until Doncaster's Lincoln meeting leading close home in a seven furlongs novice stakes. Back in action less than three weeks later, he produced a very good performance to beat the 92 rated Saga, who holds an entry in the 2000 Guineas. Still green, Maljoom was slowly away but he responded favourably when asked for his effort in the homestraight. Pulling away for a length and a half victory, it was a further dozen lengths back to the third. The Listed Heron Stakes at Sandown (19th May) looks an obvious target. He looks a high-class horse in the making.

The Top 40 has produced 7 winners from 10 runners and they include some very exciting prospects for later in the year, namely Ameynah, Maljoom, New London, Twilight Calls and Walk of Stars. If you haven't already ordered a copy of Ahead On The Flat, please head to the Publications section of the site.

There are two more runners from the Top 40 in action on Tuesday - please see pages 13 and 34.
