Top 40 entry Jubiloso (4/5) made it two out of two with a hugely impressive victory in the second division of the seven furlongs novice stakes at Newbury on Friday. The beautifully bred daughter of Shamardal had won over six furlongs on her debut at Chelmsford last month. Sir Michael Stoute's filly had come off the pace at the Essex track but was much more streetwise on her second start making all under Colm O'Donoghue. Racing enthusiastically from the outset, she powered away inside the final quarter of a mile to score by seven lengths. While she has been quoted for the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, one would envisage the Group 3 Jersey Stakes over seven furlongs as being her most likely option. Either way, she looks potentially top-class and very much one to follow this summer.
On the same card, Logician (3/1) made a winning start to his career when taking the ten furlongs maiden by two lengths. Featured in the Unraced Three Year Olds section of Ahead On The Flat, the Derby entry was well supported beforehand and travelled strongly throughout under Kieran O'Neill. The son of Frankel stayed on strongly inside the final furlong to win going away and promises to be even better over a mile and a half. It is early days, but he looks a stronger stayer and it is not beyond the realms of possibility he could develop into a St Leger contender. A powerful looking grey, he is looks another smart three year old trained by John Gosden.
Ahead On The Flat was also amongst the winners at York on the final day of the Dante meeting with Magnetic Charm (7/1), Stradivarius (4/5), UAE Prince (15/8) and Agincourt (6/1). UAE Prince has been a frustrating horse to follow over the years but his trainer Roger Varian's assessment on page 88 of AOTF couldn't have been more accurate. The Newmarket trainer's interview has been priceless this spring.
