Arguably the most interesting race on Chantilly's card on Monday was the ten furlongs fillies' maiden for three year olds. It was dominated by Andre Fabre with France's 30 times champion trainer being responsible for the winner and third. Solsticia had shaped with plenty of promise on her sole outing as a juvenile when finishing a close fourth over a mile last September. Stepping up in distance here, the daughter of Le Havre was never far away and stretched clear inside the final furlong to win emphatically. A three lengths victor, she is entered in the French 1000 Guineas, Group 1 Prix Saint-Alary and Prix de Diane. However, her dam won over twelve furlongs for the same connections a handful of years ago and this filly looks as though she will relish a mile and a half. Very strong at the line, she looks a decent prospect and it will be interesting to see what level she can reach.
I liked the performance of her stablemate Fleur De Ciel, too, in third. Owned and bred by Baron Rothschild, she is a daughter of Makfi and had been well held in her first two runs at Fontainebleau. This was a big step forward here though as she stayed on strongly in the closing stages. Beaten five and a half lengths by Solsticia, she is improving with racing and, although she doesn't hold any fancy entries, she ought to win her share of races over middle distances.
Orders received over the weekend and Monday am for Ahead On The Flat have been posted out. Thank you to those clients. Due to the current circumstances, the post appears to be slower than usual - it is taking a couple of extra days for the books to be delivered. Thank you for your patience and apologies for any inconvenience this is causing.
