The highlight at Carlisle on Sunday was provided by the Value Racing Club owned Howlingmadmurdock winning the Pertemps qualifier by eight lengths and pocketing first prize of £16,338 in the process. The Tom Lacey trained six year old had shaped well for a long way on his reappearance at Haydock before tiring late on. Dropped three pounds by the handicapper, he proved a class above the opposition at the Cumbrian track pulling away on the run-in under promising conditional jockey Cameron Iles. Rated 137, he is set for a hefty rise in the ratings but has proved another terrific buy by his syndicate having been purchased for £26,000 in February last year. The Soldier of Fortune gelding has won 3 of his 6 starts since being acquired.
Talking of new purchases, the Christmas Special features six new recruits from France including a couple of unbeaten three year old hurdlers who have joined Willie Mullins and Paul Nicholls. The French Revolution section in One Jump Ahead has been in fine form recently with Daddy Long Legs, Jigoro, Pacini and Soigneux Bell scoring. Expect more of the same from this latest article.
The original plan was to send the Christmas Special on Friday but, depending on when all the entries over the Festive period are published, I may delay emailing it to clients until Sunday - I want to get the most up to date information. Either way, I will confirm the publishing date later this week. I am working at Haydock Park on Saturday and hope to pick up a few nuggets there, too.
Please head to the Publications section of the site to order your copy and the rest of the One Jump Ahead Updates, if you haven't already done so.
