The unraced Silver Lady was reportedly the talk of the town earlier in the week and Charlie Appleby's well bred filly didn't disappoint on the second day of the Craven meeting. A daughter of Sea The Stars out of a Cheveley Park Stakes winner, she is a half-sister to Listed winner Highland Avenue and her trainer spoken favourably about her on page 59 of Ahead On The Flat. Sent off evens favourite for the one mile fillies' maiden, she was handy throughout before settling the issue inside the final furlong. A three and three quarters of a length winner, Appleby indicated afterwards that they will take a softly softly approach for now before steering her towards the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. The Listed Michael Seely Memorial Stakes at York (19th May) must be a possibility en route. She looks a top-class prospect for Godolphin.
The three runners from the Top 40 on Wednesday were disappointing - the trio were drawn low and never looked like getting involved. They are better than they showed here and shouldn't be written off, especially when encountering faster ground.
I am heading north of the border for the two day Scottish National meeting at Ayr and will therefore update the Diary on my return. Orders received for Ahead On The Flat prior to noon on Wednesday have been posted and those received since will be sent out on Thursday morning.
