Returning from an absence of 86 days, Greek Order (9/4) relished the step up to a mile and a quarter at Newbury on Saturday. Roger and Harry Charlton's well bred three year old had won over a mile at Sandown in May on his handicap debut off a mark of 80. Raised five pounds, he is a half-brother to Royal Ascot winner Sangarius and is bred to appreciate further. Given a patient ride by Oisin Murphy, the Kingman colt made stealthy headway on the outside before being pushed clear to win with plenty in hand by four and a half lengths. The Juddmonte owned three year old is set for a healthy rise in the ratings and one wonders whether connections will consider entering him for the Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket (30th September) - his stable have won the nine furlongs cavalry charge twice including with another three year old Cap Juluca in 1995. Featured in the Top 40 Prospects in Ahead On The Flat, he is a progressive type capable of winning a good prize in the Autumn and very much one to look forward to as a four year old, too.
There is still time to order a copy of the Ahead On The Flat York Ebor Festival Update, which will be emailed to clients on Monday pm. Please head to the Publications section of the site to secure your copy before the 4 day Festival gets underway on Wednesday.
